Sorah Ad-Dhuha ( The Forenoon ) - Verses Number 11

وَالضُّحَىٰ ( 1 )

By the Glorious Morning Light,

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ( 2 )

And by the Night when it is still,-

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ( 3 )

Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الْأُولَىٰ ( 4 )

And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰ ( 5 )

And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَىٰ ( 6 )

Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَىٰ ( 7 )

And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

وَوَجَدَكَ عَائِلًا فَأَغْنَىٰ ( 8 )

And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ( 9 )

Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ( 10 )

Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ ( 11 )

But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!

Enjoining Good, Forbidding EvilIbn Taymiyyah said: "This (enjoining good and forbidding evil) is a duty that the entire Ummah is obliged to fulfil. It is what the Ulama know as an obligation of collective responsibility, if a group in society undertook to discharge it, the other members of this society are absolved from it.
